Harry Lakin is TMCo’s Queenstown Office Manager and a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience as a design engineer across a wide array of building types and engineering disciplines, and has experience as an on-site operations engineer.

Prior to joining TMCo in July 2023, Harry worked for The Royal Household managing the engineering across Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s London Estate – Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, and St James’ palace. Whether designing new projects, or refining the engineering systems in existing buildings, efficiency and sustainability has always been at the forefront of his focus. This includes designing intelligent heating, ventilation, and cooling systems that enhance energy efficiency and comfort in buildings.

Harry maintains that New Zealand industry needs to work towards improved insulation, air tightness, and a shift towards sustainable energy sources. He says that New Zealand has quite some distance to move to catch up with other countries.

In this conversation, Harry shares his thoughts on the importance of tracking embodied carbon, the need to build more long-term thinking into construction decisions, and changes to the building codes.
