Chapter Zero New Zealand – Leading towards a low emissions future

Event Details: Join us for a panel conversation about the role of leadership toward a low emissions future in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This event is hosted by the Institute of Director’s Chapter Zero New Zealand initiative and Grounded Governance as part of the Wao Summit 2023.

This conversation will bring together directors, business and community leaders to discuss a number of key questions including:

  • What climate-related risks and challenges do leaders need to be aware of? And how can organisations prepare for these changes?

  • What are the opportunities for business created by a more sustainable strategic approach?

  • What learnings can boards and leaders take from recent climate disasters and what are the implications specifically for the Queenstown Lakes region?

  • How can boards and leaders best adapt and upskill to better manage climate in the long-term governance of their organisations?

The Butterfly Effect Lounge will be open for drinks.

Meet Your Speakers:

Anne Urlwin: Anne Urlwin is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and a representative on the National Council. A professional director, Anne divides her time between Wanaka and Wellington. Her governance experience is in a diverse range of sectors including energy, construction, health, telecommunications, infrastructure, regulation and financial services, and in different organisations including private, publicly listed, Crown and local authority companies and statutory entities.

Giselle McLachlan: Giselle is a Chartered Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, an experienced company director, CEO and was previously a lawyer for over 30 years. Giselle understands professional and consulting businesses, having worked in or with a wide range of consulting environments. She regularly helps this type of business to improve their governance and systems, so that they can flourish.

Mike Casey: Mike is a former software entrepreneur who has recently returned from Sydney with his family to start making an impact with zero emission agriculture. Mike and his wife Rebecca founded Forest Lodge which is a fully electric cherry orchard in Central Otago with just under 10,000 trees.

Monique Kelly: Monique is a member of the Institute of Directors. After 21 years working at the international level in human rights, employment law and policy, in 2022, she became Director of New Zealand Functional Foods (NZFF), a company established to accelerate a plant based evolution in Aotearoa. Monique is also the co-founder of innovative, natural fibre composite start-up, Revology and curator of the Revology Concept Store. Co-founder and trustee of Wao, her focus is on driving impact towards a thriving future.
