Emerging Technologies for a Decarbonised Economy

Event Details:

New technology is a key factor in reducing emissions to limit warming to 1.5°C. In this session, industry leaders will discuss emission reduction options for New Zealand's high-emission sectors: manufacturing, construction, transport, and agriculture. Presenters will showcase new technologies and upcoming research innovations, including fossil fuel-free farming practices, hydrogen-powered freight, and low-emissions recreational boating.

Hosted in partnership with Environmental Accounting Services and Wanaka Solar.

Light lunch will be available for purchase at the Butterfly Effect Lounge at the LWC.

Meet Your Speakers:

Carly Green: Carly has been involved in global Climate Change mitigation for over 20 years. She holds a PhD in International Climate Change Policy related to the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. Carly founded Environmental Accounting Services in 2007; a consulting company focused on supporting developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through informed land use planning and sustainable practices. Her passion is working with governments to develop capacities in national land use monitoring systems for international reporting and informing national policy decision making.

Anthony Jones: Anthony is CEO of HW Richardson Group (HWR), New Zealand’s largest transport company, that employs 2,500 staff, across 50 separate businesses, operating in both New Zealand and Australia. joined HWR. Prior to joining HWR, Anthony was CEO of LINX Cargo Care Group, an Australian logistics infrastructure and solutions giant that operates across the transport industry and employs more than 3,300 people on both sides of the Tasman.

Eric Laakmann: Eric was a development leader of the original Apple Watch before sailing 25,000 miles, arriving in Aotearoa in 2019. He now leads Seachange, whose mission is to empower genuine marine sustainability through an array of technologies and partnerships.

Mike Casey: Mike is a former software entrepreneur who has recently returned from Sydney with his family to start making an impact with zero emission agriculture. Mike and his wife Rebecca founded Forest Lodge which is a fully electric cherry orchard in Central Otago with just under 10,000 trees.

Mike is a big supporter of innovation in the energy sector having some first hand experience in what needs to be done to smoothly transition to electric technology across all sectors.
