Ride for Change: Momentum Builds for Active Transport in the Southern Lakes.
Wao is proud to release the Ride for Change Report, showcasing the incredible impact of our recent campaign to promote active transport and low-emissions travel in the Southern Lakes region.
The Ride for Change campaign mobilised students, families, workplaces, and community groups, covering over 12,000 km by bike and engaging 5 schools across Wānaka, Hāwea, and the home school network. With colourful convoys, bike bus, community events, and school activations, we brought joy and visibility to a serious issue: the need for safer, more sustainable transport options in our region.
From bike buses to tamariki-led traffic monitoring, the campaign demonstrated how communities can shift gears when given the tools, support, and inspiration to do so.
The newly released report details:
What worked and what’s next
The role of schools and whānau in mode shift
Opportunities for council, government, and business to support active transport infrastructure
Real stories and reflections from those who took part
This is more than a campaign—it’s a movement. We’re advocating for better transport solutions across the region, and this report is an important step forward.
